In the draw for the FIFA Club World Cup made in Zurich on Tuesday afternoon, FC Bayern discovered who their first opponents would be. In the semi-final on February 8th, they will meet the winners of the quarter-final between Al-Duhail SC (Qatar) and Al Ahly SC (Egypt). The match will kick off at 1:00 pm ET (9:00 PM local) at the Ahmed bin Ali Stadium in Qatar. The men from Munich will find out exactly which of the two teams they'll face on 4 February, when the quarter-final between the reigning champions of the host country Qatar and the CAF Champions League winners will be played.
Last week, Auckland City FC had to cancel their participation in the tournament due to quarantine regulations imposed by the New Zealand authorities. Therefore, this year's FIFA Club World Cup will start on February 4th with the quarter-finals. The second semi-final will be played on February 7th between the winner of the Copa Libertadores (final on 30 January between Brazilian sides Palmeiras and Santos) and the winner of the second quarter-final between Tigres UANL (Mexico / winner of the CONCACAF Champions League) and Ulsan Hyundai FC (South Korea / winner of the AFC Champions League). The final will take place on February 11th (kick-off: 1:00 pm ET) at the Education City Stadium.
FC Bayern have the historic chance to become the second club after Barcelona (2009) to win all six domestic and international titles within one calendar year.
Manuel Neuer already won the Club World Cup in 2013 and now wants to repeat that success.
