With this goal, you can undoubtedly speak of a perfectly-taken free-kick! In mid-September, Leroy Sané scored with a stunning strike to put Bayern 1-0 up against VfL Bochum, laying the foundations for a 7-0 goal fest. The record champions were awarded a direct free-kick a good 27 yards out: The winger lined up the shot, took a dynamic run-up - and the ball flew like an arrow past the defensive wall into the bottom right-hand corner of the net. What a wonder goal!
Musiala and Gnabry on the podium
There was little doubt the fans of the German record champions felt the same way, as they voted Sané's long-range thunderbolt as their FC Bayern Goal of the Month for September. With 38 per cent of the votes, the 25-year-old beat Jamal Musiala (26%), who put the Reds 2-0 up at RB Leipzig (final score 4-1), and Serge Gnabry (20%), who grabbed the third in the 5-0 win against Dynamo Kiev.
Reward for hard work
Sané's outstanding goal was no fluke, as the 25-year-old proved not only when he was awarded the Goal of the Month for January, but also again recently in the Champions League match at Benfica, when he opened the scoring from a similar position in the 4-0 away win. "I practice quite a lot of free-kicks," explained the skilful winger, who scored from a direct free-kick at the Estádio da Luz at his second attempt: "Unfortunately, the first one didn't work out so well, but I was happy that the second one went in."
