History of the FCBB Arena

In the 2011/2012 season, the iconic Rudi-Sedlmayer-Halle was renamed the Audi Dome, and from summer 2023 the arena in the Westpark will be called the BMW Park. The first championship was celebrated in 2014 and the double in 2018. After a successful title defence in 2019 and a title-less 2019/2020 season, FCBB will start the new season with a revamped team. The BMW Park is now synonymous with top-class basketball and an unmistakable atmosphere throughout Germany and Europe.

The FC Bayern Basketball stadium was originally built for the 1972 Olympic Games to host the basketball competitions. In 1974 the arena was named after Rudi Sedlmayer, then president of the Bavarian State Sports Association and a member of the organising committee of the Munich Olympic Games.

The arena has since been used for concerts (including Queen, Frank Zappa, Kiss and Bruce Springsteen), trade fairs and boxing events (including Vladimir and Vitali Klitschko). It has also hosted handball matches (MTSV Schwabing, TSV Milberthofen) and international volleyball matches (TSV 1860 München). The 28th Eurovision Song Contest was held here on 23 April 1983.

It was not until 2010 that FC Bayern Munich and the City of Munich entered into direct negotiations to use the stadium as a home for the club's basketball team. In April 2011, the city council approved the use of the hall as a basketball arena. The arena was then extensively renovated and modernised for the 2011/12 season to make it suitable for the Bundesliga and to accommodate around 6,700 spectators.

BMW became the arena's new namesake for the 2023/2024 season. It is now known as the BMW Park.

OBACHT - The Awareness Concept

FC Bayern has developed a concept to create a culture of looking out for each other at the BMW Park and to make attending their home games even safer. In this initiative, the Bavarian word 'Obacht' stands for looking out for each other, supporting each other - and providing help when visitors need it.

The aim of the concept of ‘OBACHT‘: Our attitude - our approach’ is to raise awareness, to look and to support them when necessary. Awareness means establishing and maintaining a considerate, responsible and supportive attitude towards each other.

An awareness team of psychologically trained specialists from the KIT-Munich of the Arbeiter-Amariter-Bund München/Oberbayern e. V. (ASB) is now available at all home games at the BMW Park. Those affected can call for help by scanning the QR codes that are prominently displayed around the arena. Any action will only be taken in consultation with the person concerned.
