FC Bayern were held to a 2-2 draw by VfB Stuttgart before being presented with the championship shield on Sunday evening. Tiago Tomás put the visitors in front before Konstantinos Mavropanos put through his own goal, with Thomas Müller turning the game around before half-time. Sasa Kalajdzic levelled after the restart, and with no more goals to come, Munich and Stuttgart shared the points.
The champions lined up with Manuel Neuer in goal and Benjamin Pavard, Dayot Upamecano, Tanguy Nianzou and Alphonso Davies in defence. Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka anchored a midfield featuring Serge Gnabry, Müller and Kingsley Coman, with Robert Lewandowski up front. Niklas Süle, Corentin Tolisso, Marc Roca, Marcel Sabitzer and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting took over from Nianzou, Pavard, Goretzka, Gnabry and Müller in the second half.
Reds turn the tide
The 75,000 full house at the Allianz Arena saw Bayern in the driving seat, but the visitors were dangerous on the break, and Wataru Endo volleyed over the bar before Tomás found the top corner of the net. Bayern almost equalised minutes later, Müller's volley crashing off the underside of the bar, with Goretzka firing wide.
Omar Marmoush aimed wide before Müller saw a header saved at the other end. Gnabry put an effort off target but a goal was coming and arrived when Mavropanos turned a Gnabry shot into his own net under pressure from Coman. Munich took the lead when Upamecano teed up Müller, who spun and poked home.
Balanced second half
Neuer denied Waldemar Anton but was unable to prevent Kalajdzic from heading in minutes later. The VfB forward soon had another chance to put Stuttgart in front but Neuer saved comfortably. The match ebbed for a while but sprang to life with a quarter-hour to go.
Philipp Förster put a shot just wide, VfB keeper Florian Müller directing a Lewandowski effort onto the bar. Neuer denied Förster from close range, Lewandowski seeing another shot saved. Coman saw a red card after raising his hand against Mavropanos, and match official Deniz Aytekin blew for full-time.
The victory means Bayern have 76 points from 33 matches. The Bavarians will be back in action next Saturday when they travel to face Wolfsburg in the last match of the Bundesliga campaign.
