FC Bayern were held to a 2-2 draw by Wolfsburg in the last match of the 2021/22 Bundesliga campaign. Josip Stanišić put Bayern in front with his first Bundesliga goal after a quarter-hour and Robert Lewandowski doubled the lead, but Jonas Wind got one back shortly before half-time, Max Kruse levelling after the restart. The result means Bayern finish the campaign on 77 points, eight clear of Borussia Dortmund.
The Bundesliga champions started with with Manuel Neuer in goal and Stanišić, Dayot Upamecano and Lucas Hernández in defence. Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka featured in the centre behind Serge Gnabry, Thomas Müller, Jamal Musiala and Alphonso Davies, with Lewandowski up front. Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, Leroy Sané, Christian Früchtl, Gabriel Vidović and Omar Richards took over from Müller, Gnabry, Neuer, Kimmich and Davies in the second half.
First-half dominance
The 30,000 full house in Wolfsburg saw Bayern in the driving seat from the start, Musiala and Goretzka seeing their efforts saved. Wolfsburg goalkeeper Koen Casteels made a strong stop to deny Lewandowski, but the Wolves had not gone absent without leave, Maxence Lacroix seeing his header crash off the post. Bayern took the lead when Stanišić rose high to meet a Kimmich corner, his header sailing into the far corner of the net.
Munich had the ball in the goal for a second time when Musiala netted from ten yards, but the goal was disallowed for a foul on Casteels. Lukas Nmecha fired wide, but a Müller cross soon invited Lewandowski to head home. The Pole almost bagged a brace but his effort went wide, and the Wolves got one back with the half-time whistle imminent, Wind crashing home on the spin.
Wolves mount a comeback
The contest was balanced after the restart, and Micky Van de Ven invited Kruse to tap in from close range. Bayern went looking for a reply, Casteels denying Lewandowski and Gnabry. Goretzka dragged an effort wide, with the hosts increasingly sitting back.
Lewandowski saw a shot blocked and Choupo-Moting miscued before Sané had a chance to restore the lead one-on-one against Casteels but fired wide. Maximilian Philipp put an effort wide at the other end as the curtain came down on a season that saw Bayern crowned champions of Germany for the tenth year in a row.
