Bundesliga action at its glorious best! FC Bayern beat FC Köln 2-1 to clinch their 11th championship title in a row as Borussia Dortmund drew against Mainz. Kingsley Coman handed Bayern an early lead, Dejan Ljubičić levelling the scores from the penalty spot with ten minutes to go.
Munich, who had been happy to sit back after their goal, upped the ante and were rewarded when Jamal Musiala's last-minute goal sealed three points and the title. The result means FCB finish the campaign on 71 points, level with Dortmund but ahead on goal difference.
The Bavarians lined up with Yann Sommer in goal and Benjamin Pavard, Dayot Upamecano, Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui in defence. Joshua Kimmich and Ryan Gravenberch anchored a midfield featuring Leroy Sané, Thomas Müller and Coman, with Serge Gnabry up front. João Cancelo, Leon Goretzka and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting took over from Müller, Gravenberch and Coman midway through the second half. Musiala and Mathys Tel replaced Mazraoui and Goretzka in the closing stages.
King on target
The 50,000 full house in Cologne saw Bayern get off to a good start and take an early lead through Coman, who cut inside and unleashed a sumptuous curler into far corner of the net. Munich were happy to sit back and strike on the break now. A Pavard cross found Müller, whose header crashed off the post. Eric Martel fired over at the other end.
Clear-cut chances were few and far between now, with Köln looking for a reply and Bayern solid at the back. Thomas Tuchel's men upped things again before half-time, Sané heading over. Bayern soon had the ball in the net for a second time, Gnabry's fine pass inviting Sané to crash home via the inside of the far post, but the goal was ruled out for handball after VAR intervention, and Bayern were one up at half-time.
Jamal seals it
Jonas Hector fired over before Sané miscued a header, Sommer tipping a Florian Kainz header over the bar as Bayern were increasingly defence-minded. Ellyes Shkiri fired over the bar before Choupo-Moting curled one just inches wide.
Köln were awarded a penalty for handball with ten minutes to go, Ljubičić converting. Bayern knew they had to win so threw caution to the wind. Sané saw an effort saved but Musiala emerged the hero with a spin and finish into the far bottom corner of the net from the edge of the box. Bayern were still on tenterhooks after referee Sven Jablonski blew for full-time, but they could finally celebrate the title after confirmed that things had also finished in Dortmund.
