FC Bayern beat FC Heidenheim 4-2 on Saturday to claim top spot in the table, at least overnight. Harry Kane extended his purple patch and handed Bayern a two-goal lead in the first half. Heidenheim struck twice to level the scores midway through the second half, but Bayern upped the ante and scored through comeback kid Raphaël Guerreiro and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting to seal three points.
Bayern lined up with Manuel Neuer in goal and Noussair Mazraoui, Dayot Upamecano, Minjae Kim and Bouna Sarr in defence. Aleksandar Pavlović and Konrad Laimer anchored a midfield featuring Leroy Sané, Thomas Müller and Serge Gnabry, with Kane up front. Guerreiro, Mathys Tel, Choupo-Moting and Alphonso Davies took over from Upamecano, Müller, Gnabry and Pavlović in the second half.
Kane on target
Thomas Tuchel's men took charge early on, Upamecano heading wide before Sané saw his volley blocked, but the latter soon found Kane, who fired home on the spin despite the close proximity of a number of defenders. Laimer smashed wide as Munich pushed on, although Tim Kleindienst miscued from a tight angle at the other end.
Sané smacked a good chance wide before keeper Kevin Müller denied Sarr, but Sané's ensuing corner soon found the completely unmarked Kane, the England captain powering home a header from 12 yards.
Action after the hour
It was a more balanced affair after the restart, with clear-cut chances at a premium for a spell. Kane saw an effort saved, but Heidenheim pulled one back when a deflected cross found Kleindienst, who netted from close range. The away side soon levelled the scores, Jan-Niklas Beste intercepting a pass in Bayern's half and finding the net with the help of a deflection.
Bayern went looking for a reply and restored the lead minutes later. Choupo-Moting saw a shot parried by Müller, with Guerreiro on hand to mop up for his first goal in Bayern colours. Kane fired over and saw another effort deflected behind as Munich pushed to restore their two-goal cushion. That came when Choupo-Moting put the game to bed as he met a Tel cross and headed home to give Bayern a deserved victory.
The result takes Bayern onto 28 points from 11 matches, one clear of Bayer Leverkusen, who take on Union Berlin on Sunday. A number of FCB players will be on national team duty during the international break before the Reds return to action on 24 November, when they travel to face Köln in the Bundesliga.
