FC Bayern beat RB Leipzig 2-1 on Saturday, marking their 1,000th Bundesliga home match in style. Harry Kane handed Bayern the lead after half-time. Benjamin Šeško levelled the scores midway through the second half, but Kane's last-gasp winner sealed three crucial points for the German record champions.
Bayern lined up with Manuel Neuer in goal and Joshua Kimmich, Matthijs de Ligt, Eric Dier and Raphaël Guerreiro in defence. Aleksandar Pavlović and Leon Goretzka anchored a midfield featuring Leroy Sané, Thomas Müller and Jamal Musiala, with Kane up front. Mathys Tel, Konrad Laimer, Minjae Kim and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting came on for Sané, Müller, Pavlović and Musiala in the second half.
Goalless at half-time
After a minute's silence for the late Andreas Brehme, Bayern dominated proceedings, with Leipzig looking to strike on the break. Munich came close to an early goal when Guerreiro found Kane, but keeper Janis Blaswich directed the header onto the post. Clear-cut chances were at a premium now, Xavi firing wide.
Sané soon had only Blaswich to beat, but the netminder closed down the angle and the chance was gone. Kane mishit a bicycle kick from close range as the sides went into half-time with the score 0-0.
Kane seals it
Musiala saw an effort saved, but Bayern soon had Neuer to thank for keeping the scores level when he made a fine save against Amadou Haidara. Mohamed Simakan fired wide and Neuer denied Xavi, but Bayern took the lead when Kane beat Blaswich after a failed clearance. Leipzig went looking for a response, Neuer making another strong save against Šeško.
Leipzig levelled the scored when Šeško found the net with the help of a deflection. Kane headed over and Choupo-Moting saw an effort blocked, but Bayern restored their lead when Choupo-Moting's corner found Kane, who beat Blaswich to seal three crucial points.
The result takes Bayern onto 53 points from 23 matches, eight short of Bayer Leverkusen. The Bavarians will be back in action on Friday when they travel to face Freiburg.
