Impressive Bayern see off Freiburg

FC Bayern beat SC Freiburg 3-0 on Sunday to lay down a marker before the international break. Kingsley Coman and Leroy Sané scored for Bayern in the first half, the Frenchman rounding off his brace in the closing stages of a very one-sided affair.

Munich lined up with Sven Ulreich in goal and Noussair Mazraoui, Dayot Upamecano, Minjae Kim and Alphonso Davies in defence. Leon Goretzka and Joshua Kimmich anchored a midfield featuring Coman, Thomas Müller and Sané, with Harry Kane up front. Jamal Musiala, Mathys Tel, Konrad Laimer, Frans Krätzig and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting took over from Müller, Kane, Upamecano, Kimmich and Coman in the second half.

Dominant display

The 75,000 full house at the Allianz Arena saw Bayern set up camp in Freiburg's half from the get-go. Lucas Höler cleared a goal-bound Kimmich corner before Davies fired wide, but Bayern took an early lead when Coman's cross-cum-shot sailed into the net via the inside of the far post. Kane aimed just wide before hitting the post, but Bayern soon doubled the lead when the England captain squared for Sané to tap in.

It was all Bayern in the first half, and keeper Noah Atubolu saved a deflected cross before a Sané shot was diverted behind. The home fans were treated to magic when Sané nutmegged a defender and curled the ball into the far corner of the net, but the goal was chalked off for offside after VAR intervention.

King seals it

Proceedings were similar after the restart. Goretzka's flicked header from a Kimmich chip found no takers before Müller saw an effort blocked and an overhead kick go wide. Another Coman curler landed on the roof of the net before Atubolu denied the Frenchman again.

Tel soon slotted home, but the linesman's flag was raised. Atubolu directed Goretzka's powerful drive onto the post, but the final flourish came when Coman found the net with the help of a deflection. Kiliann Sildillia netted at the other end, but the flag was up for offside. Musiala teed up Tel, whose first touch let him down as Bayern sealed a thoroughly deserved victory.

The result takes Bayern onto points 17 from seven matches, lying third in the table behind Bayer Leverkusen and VfB Stuttgart. A number of FCB players are now away with their national teams during the international break before the Reds return to action on 21 October when they travel to face Mainz.
