FC Bayern beat VfL Wolfsburg 2-0 in Sunday's final home match this season. Lovro Zvonarek and Leon Goretzka handed Bayern a 2-0 lead early in the first half. Bayern were dominant throughout and went on to seal a deserved win and move two points clear of Stuttgart in the table.
Bayern started with Manuel Neuer in goal and Joshua Kimmich, Dayot Upamecano, Minjae Kim and Alphonso Davies in defence. Aleksandar Pavlović and Goretzka anchored a midfield featuring Zvonarek, Thomas Müller and Bryan, with Mathys Tel up front. Konrad Laimer and Matthijs de Ligt took over from Pavlović and Kim with a quarter-hour to go. Daniel Peretz, Matteo Perez Vinlöf and Jonathan Asp Jensen made their Bundesliga debuts when they replaced Neuer, Goretzka and Zvonarek.
Zvonarek opens
After FC Bayern said goodbye to Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, Bouna Sarr and board member Andreas Jung, Munich got off to a perfect start when Davies teed up Zvonarek, who found the net via the inside of the far post to crown his debut as a starter. The Bavarians soon doubled the lead against the reeling Wolves, Goretzka firing home following neat interplay.
Bayern had the ball in the net for a third time, Müller inviting Bryan to slot in, but the goal was chalked off for offside. Neuer denied Patrick Wimmer, but clear-cut chances were few and far between now as Wolfsburg sat deeper and got a grip, with Bayern happy to move the ball around, and Munich were two up at half-time.
Plain sailing
Wolfsburg were more active after the restart, but Bayern were never in danger. Bryan saw an effort saved, Kimmich miscued a free-kick and Tel fired wide. The pace dropped even further after a string of changes.
Wolfsburg keeper Koen Casteels denied Müller before Tiago Tomás fired wide at the other end. The game petered out as Bayern bagged three deserved points.
The result takes Bayern onto 72 points from 33 matches, two clear of VfB Stuttgart. The Bavarians will be back in action next Saturday when they travel to face Hoffenheim in the last match of the season.
