FC Bayern beat FC Augsburg 3-0 on Friday to consolidate their lead in the Bundesliga table. Munich were utterly dominant but had to wait for Harry Kane to put them in front after the hour mark. The Englishman added two more goals in injury time to bag a hat-trick.
Bayern lined up with Manuel Neuer in goal and Raphaël Guerreiro, Dayot Upamecano, Minjae Kim and Alphonso Davies in a back four. Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka anchored a midfield featuring Michael Olise, Jamal Musiala and Kingsley Coman, with Kane up front. Konrad Laimer, Leroy Sané, Serge Gnabry, Thomas Müller and Sacha Boey came on for Guerreiro, Olise, Coman, Musiala and Davies in the second half.
No goals
Bayern were dominant throughout, with Augsburg parking the bus and waiting for chances on the break. Goretzka fired just wide and Kimmich aimed too high before Musiala miscued a header. Coman saw an effort saved as Munich upped the pressure, with keeper Nediljko Labrović denying Kane and Musiala.
The right finish eluded Musiala and Olise before Kane's square only just evaded Musiala. Labrović made another fine save against Goretzka as FCB failed to reward themselves for their dominance before half-time.
Kane seals it
Bayern immediately picked up where they left off in the first half, Musiala seeing a header saved before Goretzka's header hit the bar. Chances came and went for Olise and Musiala, but Bayern were awarded a penalty for handball, Kane dispatching to break the deadlock.
A Coman effort landed on the roof of the net and Labrović denied Kimmich before Bayern increasingly engaged cruise control. Augsburg opened up in the closing stages and Labrović proved equal to Musiala, but Munich were awarded another penalty following Keven Schlotterbeck's challenge on Kane, who proved a cool customer from 12 yards and soon headed home to make it three.
The result means Bayern top the table on 29 points from 11 matches, eight ahead of RB Leipzig, who take on Hoffenheim on Saturday. The Bavarians will be back in action on Tuesday when they entertain Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.
