Ten-man FC Bayern were beaten 3-2 at home by Bochum on Saturday afternoon. Raphaël Guerreiro bagged a brace in the first half, but Jakov Medić soon pulled one back, with João Palhinha seeing a red card before half-time. With a numerical advantage, the visitors turned things around in the second half, Ibrahima Sissoko and Matus Bero finding the net.
The Bavarians started with Jonas Urbig in goal for his full debut and Sacha Boey, Eric Dier, Josip Stanišić and Hiroki Ito in a back four. Palhinha and Leon Goretzka anchored a midfield featuring Leroy Sané, Guerreiro and Serge Gnabry, with Thomas Müller up front. Konrad Laimer, Michael Olise, Serge Gnabry, Harry Kane and Joshua Kimmich took over from Boey, Sané, Gnabry, Müller and Ito in the second half.
Brace for Guerreiro
The pattern of the match was soon established with Munich dominating possession and Bochum sitting deep. Bayern took the lead with the game's first chance, Gnabry cutting inside and going down, but Guerreiro was on hand to fire into the roof of the net. A Dier header was saved before Medić upended Sané in the box, but Gnabry hit the post from the ensuing penalty.
Gnabry fired wide another effort wide, but Müller's header soon invited Guerreiro to double the advantage from close range. Bochum pulled one back when a corner led to a mix-up in the box, with Medić blasting into the top corner of the net. Gnabry eventually found the back of the net, but the offside flag was up. The first half ended with a setback when Palhinha received his marching orders for a challenge on Georgios Masouras.
Nothing doing
Urbig denied Masouras, but Sissoko headed in from a subsequent cross to level the scores after the restart. A Sané effort was blocked before Guerreiro fired wide of the far post. Laimer saw an effort saved, but the visitors then took the lead when Philipp Hofmann found Bero, who beat Urbig.
A Musiala header was saved before Urbig denied Moritz Broschinski. Kane had a shot deflected behind, but it was not to be as Bayern suffered their first Bundesliga defeat at home this term.
The result means Bayern have 61 points from 25 matches, still eight clear of Bayer Leverkusen, who lost to Werder Bremen. The Bavarians will be back in action on Tuesday when they take on their closest Bundesliga rivals in the Champions League last 16 return leg.
