Bayern victorious over Borussia Mönchengladbach

FC Bayern beat Borussia Mönchengladbach 4-1 on Friday to extend their lead in the Bundesliga overnight. Luis Díaz and Konrad Laimer handed Munich a two-goal lead before half-time. Rocco Reitz saw a red card for a challenge on Nicolas Jackson, with Jamal Musiala converting the ensuing penalty. Jackson added his name to the scoresheet with ten minutes to go before Wael Mohya scored a late consolation goal for the visitors.

Bayern started with Manuel Neuer in goal and Laimer, Dayot Upamecano, Minjae Kim and Tom Bischof in defence. Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka anchored a midfield featuring Lennart Karl, Musiala and Díaz, with Jackson up front.

Jonas Urbig took over from Neuer in goal at half-time, with debutant Maycon Cardozo, Josip Stanišić, Raphaël Guerreiro and David Santos coming on for Laimer, Upamecano, Díaz and Kimmich in the second half.

Two up at half-time

Gladbach enjoyed more of the ball at the start, with Neuer denying Reitz. Bayern soon asserted their authority and Karl’s sumptuous goal was chalked off for offside. A Díaz square didn’t find any takers and Karl saw a shot saved, but Kim’s pass soon found Goretzka, who lifted the ball for Díaz to volley home.

Jackson had a shot saved and fired another just wide but soon initiated a counter and set up Díaz, whose square invited Laimer to beat Gladbach keeper Moritz Nicolas on the stroke of half-time.

More of the same

Laimer hit the side netting after the restart before Reitz upended Jackson in the box and was sent off, with Musiala dispatching from the spot for his first Bundesliga goal since April 2025. Urbig gathered Shuto Machino’s header before a Kimmich free-kick found the run of Goretzka, who turned over the bar on the stretch.

Nicolas denied Goretzka before Karl’s low cross found Jackson to turn home a fourth and his first goal of 2026. Gladbach pulled one back when Fabio Chiarodia hit the post from a free-kick and Mohya was quickest to react, but Bayern went on to win their fifth Bundesliga match in a row.

The result means Bayern have 66 points from 25 matches, 14 clear of Borussia Dortmund, who take on Köln on Saturday. The Bavarians will be back in action on Tuesday when they travel to face Atalanta in the Champions League.
