Bayern and Atlético share the spoils

Tuesday night's Champions League clash between FC Bayern and Atlético Madrid ended in a 1-1 draw, Bayern's streak of 15 straight wins in Europe's premier club competition coming to an end. João Félix put the home side ahead midway through the first half, sub Thomas Müller levelling the scores from the spot in the closing stages.

Hansi Flick comprehensively shuffled his deck, making nine changes to the XI that saw off Stuttgart on Saturday. The Bavarians lined up with Alexander Nübel in goal and Bouna Sarr, Niklas Süle, Bright Arrey-Mbi and Lucas Hernández in defence, Javi Martínez and David Alaba in defensive midfield behind Douglas Costa, Jamal Musiala and Leroy Sané, with Eric-Maxim Choupo-Moting up front. Chris Richards, Serge Gnabry and Müller took over from Sarr, Arrey-Mbi and Martínez after the hour, Angelo Stiller and Joshua Zirkzee coming on for Musiala and Costa late in the second half.

One down at half-time

Atlético were dominant in the early exchanges, Martínez blocking an Ángel Correa effort before Koke fired wide. Munich got a grip now, Hernández testing keeper Jan Oblak, Sané blasting over. Yannick Carrasco hit the side-netting, but the hosts took the lead when a Marcos Llorente cutback found Félix, who slotted past Nübel.

Musiala fired just wide, Llorente spooning a big chance over the bar. Atlético increasingly engaged cruise control now, Bayern dominating possession, but they proved uninspired in attack, and the sides turned round with the Spaniards a goal to the good.

Müller levels from the spot

Félix saw an effort blocked and hit the crossbar three minutes later, but the linesman had raised his flag for an offside position in any case. Choupo-Moting saw an effort saved, Nübel proving equal to a Correa effort.

Bayern went onto the front foot now but failed to delivered the final pass, Oblak beating Müller to a Gnabry pass, Sané seeing an effort blocked. Bayern's pressure was rewarded when Müller was upended in the box and converted the ensuing penalty. Hermoso's miscued header meant the two sides shared the spoils.

Bayern will be back in action on Saturday evening, when they entertain RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga's top-of-the-table clash.
