Reds beat Dynamo to seal group win

FC Bayern beat Dynamo Kyiv 2-1 on Tuesday evening, sealing top spot in their group. Robert Lewandowski and Kingsley Coman handed Munich a two-goal lead in the first half. Denys Garmash pulled one back in the second half, but Bayern claimed a deserved victory.

The Bavarians lined up with Manuel Neuer in goal and Benjamin Pavard, Tanguy Nianzou, Lucas Hernández and Alphonso Davies in a back four. Leon Goretzka and Corentin Tolisso anchored a midfield featuring Leroy Sané, Thomas Müller and Coman, with Lewandowski as the target man. Bouna Sarr came on for Hernández at half-time, Marc Roca, Malik Tillman and Omar Richards taking over from Coman, Nianzou and Sané in the second half.

Lewy shines

Bayern went straight onto the front foot, Goretzka letting fly from 20 yards only to hit Tolisso. Lewandowski soon made the most of a mix-up in the box, putting Bayern ahead with a spectacular overhead kick. Munich were clearly dominant but gilt-edged chances proved few and far between now. A scare came when Goretzka cleared under pressure, but Neuer missed the ball and it trundled against the post.

Neuer did well to save a deflected Tsygankov effort, but the Bavarians soon twisted the knife, Tolisso setting up Coman, who found the net via the woodwork. Tolisso let fly from the edge of the box but keeper Bushchan denied the Frenchman, and Bayern were two up at half-time.

On tenterhooks

Neuer stood out with a double save after the interval, parrying a deflected Shaparenko shot before saving the latter's rebound. Davies fired wide and Tolisso saw an effort saved, but Dynamo pulled one back when Tsygankov found Harmash, who beat Neuer from close distance.

The home side were buoyed by the goal, Neuer denying Sudorchuk before Tsygankov fired just wide, although Lewandowski miscued at the other end. Goretzka made a crucial last-ditch tackle against Tsygankov, who fired just wide minutes later, but Bayern saw out the storm and sealed three points.

The victory means Bayern have a maximum 15 points from five matches and can no longer be toppled from their perch. The German record champions will be back in action on Saturday, when they entertain Bielefeld in the Bundesliga.
