FC Bayern beat Paris Saint-Germain 1-0 on Tuesday night to seal three crucial points in the Champions League. Minjae Kim scored what proved to be the match-winner before half-time. PSG were reduced to ten men shortly after the restart and Munich missed a number of chances to extend their lead but went on to claim their seventh win in a row.
Bayern lined up with Manuel Neuer in goal and Konrad Laimer, Dayot Upamecano, Kim and Alphonso Davies in defence. Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka anchored a midfield featuring Kingsley Coman, Jamal Musiala and Leroy Sané, with Harry Kane as the target man. Serge Gnabry, Michael Olise and Thomas Müller took over from Coman, Sané and Musiala in the second half.
Kim on target
The match got off to a lively start, with Bayern having the better chances. Sané found Goretzka in the box, but his first touch let him down. Musiala and Sané saw their efforts saved before Coman sidestepped a number of defenders only to fire wide.
Warren Zaïre-Emery miscued at the other end and Neuer denied Ousmane Dembelé, with João Neves putting the rebound wide. Munich took a deserved lead when keeper Matvei Safonov cleared a corner only as far as Kim, who headed home. Coman knocked the ball onto the roof of the net before Kimmich and Sané saw efforts saved.
On tenterhooks
Clear-cut chances were at a premium after the restart. Dembelé saw a shot blocked and was soon sent off for a second bookable offence after a challenge on Davies. Musiala and Coman aimed too high as Munich tried to make the most of their numerical advantage.
Musiala hit the post via Safonov's fingertips and Müller fired wide. PSG went looking for an equaliser in the closing stages, João Neves firing over, but Munich sealed a deserved victory.
Bayern will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to face Borussia Dortmund in Der Klassiker.
