FC Bayern beat FC Düren 3-0 on Thursday, advancing to the second DFB Cup round. Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting put Bayern ahead midway through the first half, Thomas Müller doubling the advantage from the spot before half-time. Choupo-Moting crowned his debut when he rounded off a brace in the second half.
The Bavarians started with Alexander Nübel in goal and Bouna Sarr, Jérôme Boateng, Niklas Süle and Alphonso Davies in a back four. Javi Martínez and Marc Roca anchored a midfield featuring Douglas Costa, Müller and Jamal Musiala, with Choupo-Moting up front.
With a large number of FCB pros still on national team duty, coach Hansi Flick had to shuffle his deck, with Nübel, Sarr, Roca and Choupo-Moting making their debuts for FCB and Costa making his first match since his spell at Juventus, whereas Musiala made his first senior start for Munich.
Angelo Stiller, Armindo Sieb, Leon Dajaku and Fiete Arp came on for Süle, Costa, Müller and Choupo-Moting in the second half. Sieb had to be subbed off with injury in the closing stages, Daniels Ontužāns taking over.
Two up at half-time
Düren got off to a good start, Marc Brašnić calling Nübel into action. But Bayern asserted their authority now, Martínez heading over the bar. Choupo-Moting miscued a header before seeing another effort saved by keeper Kevin Jackmuth, but he crowned his debut when a perceptive Costa pass found Sarr, who invited Choupo-Moting to open the scoring.
The striker was upended in the box, Müller converting the penalty to double the lead. Roca blasted wide and Costa saw an effort saved after a fine solo run before match official Matthias Jöllenbeck blew for half-time.
Brace for Choupo-Moting
Musiala saw an effort blocked and Martínez fired over. Jackmuth denied Choupo-Moting before the latter saw an effort scrambled off the line. Musiala hit the post, but Choupo-Moting rounded off his brace when he fired home from the edge of the box. Roca saw an effort deflected wide and Martínez was denied by the woodwork before full-time.
The Bavarians will be back in action on Saturday, when they travel to face Arminia Bielefeld in the Bundesliga.
