On-song FCB down Monaco

FC Bayern enjoyed a successful dress rehearsal for the Supercup, beating AS Monaco 4-2 on Monday. Takumi Minamino put the away side in front, but Konrad Laimer, Jamal Musiala and Serge Gnabry all found the net before half-time. Wissam Ben Yedder pulled one back after the hour mark, Leroy Sané soon restoring Bayern's two-goal lead.

The Bavarians lined up with Sven Ulreich in goal and Noussair Mazraoui, Benjamin Pavard, Minjae Kim and Alphonso Davies in defence. Laimer and Leon Goretzka anchored a midfield featuring Kingsley Coman, Musiala and Gnabry, with Mathys Tel up front.

Matthijs de Ligt and Sané came on for Pavard and Musiala at half-time, Josip Stanišić, Dayot Upamecano, Frans Krätzig, Aleksandar Pavlović, Antonio Tikvić, Arijon Ibrahimović, Ryan Gravenberch and Paul Wanner replacing Mazraoui, Kim, Davies, Laimer, Goretzka, Coman, Gnabry and Tel in the second half.

FCB turn the tide

Bayern got off to a good start, Gnabry seeing two early efforts saved. Ulreich was called into action by Ben Yedder before Monaco took the lead when FCB lost the ball in midfield and Ulreich parried an effort, but Minamino dispatched the rebound.

The German record champions immediately went looking for a reply. Musiala fired wide but Laimer soon smashed home. Bayern went ahead when Musiala left Monaco's defence chasing shadows and found the net. The 20-year-old almost bagged a brace, his effort hitting the bar. FCB were awarded a penalty for handball with the half-time whistle imminent, Gnabry converting to make it 3-1.

Leroy seals it

Proceedings were similar after half-time, Tel hitting the post. Ulreich denied Minamino, but Monaco were awarded a penalty when the Japan international was upended in the box, Ben Yedder converting from 12 yards.

Gravenberch saw an effort blocked and Sané found the net to all but put the game to bed. Ulreich made a fine save to deny Volland before Goretzka fired just wide and Sané hit the bar, and Bayern claimed a deserved victory.

The Bavarians will be back in action on Saturday, when they battle it out with RB Leipzig for the first silverware of the season in the Supercup.
