On-song FCB down Tottenham

FC Bayern beat Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 as part of the Coupang Play Series on Saturday. Gabriel Vidović handed Bayern an early lead. Sub Leon Goretzka doubled the lead after half-time, Pedro Porro scoring the consolation goal for the Premier League side.

The Bavarians lined up with Manuel Neuer in goal and Sacha Boey, Minjae Kim, Josip Stanišić and Raphaël Guerreiro in defence. Aleksandar Pavlović and Joshua Kimmich anchored a midfield featuring Serge Gnabry, Vidović and Mathys Tel, with Thomas Müller up front. Boss Vincent Kompany shuffled his deck at half-time, new signing João Palhinha making his debut for FCB in the second half.

Vidović on target

The 63,000 crowd at the Seoul World Cup Stadium saw Bayern get off to the better start, Gnabry aiming too high before he intercepted a pass by keeper Guglielmo Vicario, with Vidović capitalising on the mix-up to hand Munich the lead. Stanišić made a crucial block against Dejan Kulusevski before Kim headed over.

Gnabry saw an effort deflected behind, with Tel and again Gnabry firing just wide. Tel missed another chance and the sides turned round with Bayern a goal to the good.

Frantic closing stages

The pattern was similar after the restart. Bayern were in the driving seat, although Kulusevski fired only just wide. Bryan saw a shot saved, but Goretzka doubled the lead when his first attempt was parried before he mopped up the rebound.

Sven Ulreich, who had come on for Neuer, denied Brennan Johnson, but Tottenham pulled one back when Pedro Porro netted from distance. Lucas Bergvall miscued, Nestory Irankunda seeing two efforts saved at the other end. Adam Aznou fired wide before Bryan's goal was chalked off for offside. The latter saw another effort saved, but Bayern sealed a deserved win.

Bayern return to Munich on Monday before the German record champions and Tottenham meet again in London next Saturday.
