Joyful atmosphere as Bayern beat Red Eagles Austria 3-1

FC Bayern beat Red Eagles Austria 3-1 in Saturday afternoon's Dream Match. The German record champions arrived in Imst to thunderous applause and cheers from the fans, and the 13th edition of the Dream Match was a festival of fun for everyone involved. The 5,000 crowd saw Vincent Kompany’s men beat the fan club XI to round off a perfect weekend after yesterday’s 6-0 victory over RB Leipzig. Seven Bayern pros were starters. Aristide Hentcho Nseke handed Munich the lead on the half-hour, with Roy Snip making it two from the spot in the second half. Hannes Wibmer scored the consolation goal for the Eagles before Sadiki Chemwor rounded off the scoreline.

Consolation goal sends fans into raptures

The brave fan club put up a real fight and there were chances at both ends. Sandro Waibl came closest to an opener when his header crashed off the bar, but Moritz Göttlicher intercepted a bad pass in the Eagles’ half and set up Hentcho Nseke, who found the net. Further chances came and went for both Bayern and the Eagles, but another goal refused to come before half-time.

The pattern remained the same after the interval, with Munich closer to a second than the fan club to a leveller, and Snip converted a penalty to double the advantage with a quarter-hour to go. The big moment for the Red Eagles came minutes later, when there was a mix-up in Bayern’s box following a corner, and Wibmer made the most of it to send the fan club into raptures.

Bayern replied almost immediately when Chemwor added the final flourish from close range. But the result was a side note on Saturday – as always, the Dream Match was about being close to the fans and making their day, and that was the next success after yesterday’s goal fest in the Bundesliga.

The Bavarians will be back in action on Wednesday when they travel to face Wehen Wiesbaden in the first round of the DFB Cup, and Munich will be buoyed by their perfect weekend.
