Goals galore on Hernández debüt

There was a carnival atmosphere at the foot of the Wallberg mountain on Thursday evening as Bayern cruised to a 23-0 (11-0) victory over local side FC Rottach-Egern at their training camp in Tegernsee. It was a successful dress rehearsal for the Reds ahead of Monday’s DFB Cup first round clash at Energie Cottbus, while summer signing Lucas Hernández made his debut in a Bayern shirt.

In front of a crowd of 2,500, Renato Sanches (2), Leon Dajaku, Robert Lewandowski (3), Serge Gnabry and Corentin Tolisso (4) gave Bayern a commanding lead before half-time. The second-half goals came courtesy of Thomas Müller (2), Otschi Wriedt (3), Sarpreet Singh, Leon Goretzka (2), Alexander Nollenberger plus an own goal from Rottach’s Lars Dietrich.

After four intense training sessions in three days, coach Niko Kovac fielded a mix of senior players and youth talent against the amateur outfit. Even without the rested David Alaba, Jérôme Boateng and Kingsley Coman, the men from Munich enjoyed themselves and were already 3-0 up inside the opening 10 minutes.

The record German champions somewhat took their foot off the gas after that, but a Lewandowski brace and further strikes from Sanches and Gnabry made it 7-0 before four goals in the space of six minutes from Tolisso ensured the half-time scoreline of 11-0. Another French World Cup winner was in the limelight after the break as Hérnandez made his first appearance for FCB.

Along with Hérnandez, Kovac swapped the rest of his outfield players for the second half, while the hosts also made wholesale changes. That didn’t stop the Bayern goals flowing, though. On the contrary: Müller, Wriedt and Goretzka all netted hat-tricks and they were joined on the score sheet by youngsters Singh and Nollenberger, as well as an own goal.

In contrast to last year’s meeting, the plucky hosts failed to find the net themselves but the result was of secondary importance. The spectators enjoyed tricks, goals and an entertaining afternoon in the Tegernsee valley.
