Fit-again Ribery fired up for Bremen clash

Following the loss of Luca Toni to injury, Bayern will also be without Jose Ernesto Sosa in Saturday’s League Cup quarter-final against Werder Bremen. The Argentine newcomer stretched an ankle ligament on Tuesday, and has been ordered not to train for the next three days. “It’s a pretty painful business,” Sosa told fcbayern.de on Wednesday.

The incident leading to the injury happened in Tuesday afternoon training. Sosa came off second best in a tackle and was forced to break off the session, reporting to the medical unit for treatment. The 22-year-old will resume the first team schedule early next week.

Ribery in line to face Bremen

There was better news of Franck Ribery, after the Frenchman declared himself fit to feature in Saturday’s showdown at the LTU Arena in Dusseldorf. “I’m feeling fine. Playing tonight in Monchengladbach would be too soon, but I’ll definitely appear against Bremen,” the player reported after going for a long run while the rest of the squad trained at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday.

Mark van Bommel (Achilles) and Valerien Ismael (rehab after surgery) embarked on similarly sweat-inducing runs at the Säbener Straße as the pair reported to fitness coaches Thomas Wilhelmi and Riccardo Proietti for a gruelling workout on Wednesday morning. Luca Toni spent the session exercising in the weights room.
