Bayern’s 3-0 victory over Rostock also featured some quality football from the home side, as a satisfied Mark van Bommel observed afterwards. “We’re not at 100 percent yet, but we’ve already begun enjoying ourselves,” the 30-year-old exclusively told fcbayern.de.
Interview: Mark van Bommel
fcbayern.de: Mark, are you happy after the 3-0 opening day win?
Mark van Bommel: “We kept it tight at the back. Olli didn’t have a great deal to do, and that’s good for starters. We let them have two or three decent openings on the break and we have to improve in this respect, but overall, we can be satisfied. If we’d been a little more accurate with our passing, and avoided running offside, we might have won by more. We’re not at 100 percent yet, but we’ve already begun enjoying ourselves.“
fcbayern.de: What pleased you most about today’s game?
Van Bommel: “The first 20 minutes. We played incredibly high-tempo football, but we were patient, and kept looking for the gaps. Miro’s pass to Toni for the goal was outstanding. I reckon that looked pretty good at times today.“
fcbayern.de: You struggled against defensive teams like Hansa last term. What made the difference today compared to last year?
Van Bommel: “We’re not as predictable. We pose a threat from all over the field now. Our opponents don’t know who to close down, which is ideal. We’re all capable of scoring goals.“
fcbayern.de: Your next opponents are Werder Bremen away. What can we expect to see?
Van Bommel: “It definitely won’t be as easy as it was a couple of weeks ago in the League Cup. Bremen were held to a draw after leading 2-0 today, so they need a win against us next week. But we’ll go to their place looking for all three points.“
