FCB expect ‘open game’ against Bremen

The grass has been cut to a uniform 23 millimetres, the lines are freshly painted, the perimeter boards are up, and the seats have been polished - the Allianz Arena is all set for the first home game of the new campaign. On Saturday (live in English from 3.15 pm CET on Web Radio), Werder Bremen come to Munich for the latest north-south showdown – and the southern side have a score to settle.

Almost exactly a year ago, Germany’s most successful club fell to a traumatic 5-2 defeat in last season’s corresponding fixture. Ahead of the weekend re-run, Michael Rensing recalled his feelings of shame. “I thought it must be a bad dream. Nothing like that must ever happen again. We want to make amends.”
