The 1-1 draw away to Hoffenheim provoked mixed reactions in the FCB camp afterwards, reflecting a below-par first half but a much-improved second-half display by Louis van Gaal’s side. “Based on the chances we had, we should have won,” the coach reflected, after watching Ivica Olic score on his Bundesliga debut for his new club. "I certainly thought we were the better team today," Uli Hoeneß commented.
Reaction to Hoffenheim v Bayern:
Uli Hoeneß: “We took the lead, but we didn’t play very well in the first half – and we were lucky that a goal wasn’t given when the ball clearly crossed the line. I was really pleased with the team after half-time. I didn’t have the feeling we were the away team. We totally dominated the game, Hoffenheim faced dilemma after dilemma. You have to say we would have deserved the win. I certainly thought we were the better team today.”
Louis van Gaal: “Based on the chances we had, we should have won. My team forgot to play football in the first half. We were better in the second half. Hoffenheim were tired, but we couldn’t capitalise. I’m satisfied with the second half."
Philipp Lahm: “We didn’t play well. We didn’t produce the football we set out to produce, and our passing was poor too. We have to improve a lot over the coming weeks."
