Following the gala display at home to Hertha BSC Berlin, crowning a thrilling run-in to the end of the first half of the season, the Bayern stars enjoyed a lively Christmas party – and then reported to the Säbener Strasse the following day for weight and fitness checks. Some were handed training plans to take them through the festive season, before all the players headed off for the annual winter break.
The squad will report back for the second half of the campaign on 3 January. Following a public training session at the Säbener Strasse, the players and officials board the plane for Dubai and the customary mid-season training camp. It will be the sixth time in all that Germany’s most successful club have held their winter training workout in the Emirate on the Persian Gulf. The European league season ends earlier than usual in 2009-10 to allow extra time ahead of the World Cup, so there is just one warm-up match currently on the schedule before Bayern resume duty in the Bundesliga on 15 January.
Bayern’s 2009-10 mid-season schedule:
3 January, 4.30 pm: Training session at the Säbener Strasse, followed by flight to Dubai.
4-10 January: Winter training camp in Dubai
12 January: Friendly v FC Basel (away, kick-off 7 pm)
15 January: Bundesliga Matchday 18: Bayern v Hoffenheim at the Alllianz Arena (kick-off 8.30 pm).
