Bayern vow to sign off for 2009 with a win

Snowflakes fluttered down all day onto the frozen ground at the FCB training facility, but the holiday season was far from everyone’s mind at the Säbener Straße on Wednesday. After two days off, the senior squad, some even braving the elements in shorts, began preparing for Saturday’s home meeting with Hertha BSC Berlin, the final match before the midpoint of the season.

“We want to put on a show for the fans and celebrate a successful end to the year with them,” Andreas Ottl told fcbayern.de. The two days without official training had been beneficial, “to refresh ourselves mentally and focus our thoughts,” the midfielder continued. “It was a chance to recharge our batteries,” said Thomas Müller, “now we’re ready to give it everything for the last time before the winter break.”

Battle in store

After spectacular displays in the 4-1 win in Turin and a 5-1 triumph in Bochum, the Bayern stars are keen to treat their home crowd to more of the same at the weekend. “However, taking the three points is the priority,” insisted Ottl. Müller agreed: “Playing like we did in the last two games isn’t the objective. We’ll need fighting spirit and passion to claim the three points.”
