Step by steady step, Bayern are closing in on the top of the Bundesliga table. Friday evening's hard-fought 2-1 home win over a surprisingly lively Borussia Monchengladbach means the resurgent Bavarians continue to reel in the leading teams. After a run of eight games without defeat, FCB are up to third in the standings and lie just four points off Bayer Leverkusen, who were held to a goalless draw in Hannover on Saturday.
"I'm delighted we've won. It was an important victory, because it keeps us there or thereabouts at the top," enthused Holger Badstuber, whose maiden Bundesliga goal after 75 minutes sealed FCB's seventh win of the campaign and also provided a morale-boosting result ahead of Tuesday's win-or-bust Champions League showdown away to Juventus in Turin.
