Facts and stats from the Stuttgart clash

Bayern took the lead but ended up losing 2-1 at home to VfB Stuttgart, in a game which went badly awry for the men from Munich. The first home defeat of the season for Louis van Gaal’s men brought an end to more than one streak, but other runs continued. fcbayern.de has pored over the match stats and picked out the highlights.

3 years have passed since Bayern last lost after taking the lead in front of their home crowd. FCB went 1-0 up at home to Hamburg in April 2007, but just as against Stuttgart, the game ended in a 2-1 defeat.

3 assists have come from Danijel Pranjic this term – and all three have led to goals for fellow-countryman Ivica Olic, including the opener against Stuttgart.

8 Bundesliga goals have now come from the boot or head of Olic. Ivica has also scored two goals in the Champions League.

Bayern won the cross tally 13-4 and the corner count 5-2, but VfB delivered 15 shots to Bayern’s 9. Bayern edged the tackles with 51 percent of the challenges won, and FCB had 55 percent of the possession.

Bayern have now scored at least once in 17 consecutive Bundesliga matches. That streak continued against VfB Stuttgart. The last time FCB failed to score in the league was in the reverse fixture last October.

Ahead of the meeting with Stuttgart, Munich had not lost at the Allianz Arena for 17 matches in a row. The league’s longest run in this respect thus came to an end.

Bayern have scored 17 goals from crosses this term, a league best Ivica Olic netted against VfB from a Danijel Pranjic centre, taking Bayern ahead of the mark they achieved last season, when they scored 16 goals from crosses.

Bayern have played 41 competitive matches this season, of which Philipp Lahm has started all 41, and made it to the final whistle on 40 occasions. The Germany international was only substituted once, in the 5-0 cup win over Oberhausen.

Bastian Schweinsteiger played the ball 91 times against Stuttgart, yet again the best score of any player on the field.
