Wednesday evening sees part one of the head-to-head duel between Schalke and Bayern, when a packed Veltins Arena witnesses the teams battle for a place in the DFB Cup final. Just ten days later, the teams fight over league points on the same ground. “Felix Magath tripped us up once with Wolfsburg and it mustn’t happen again,” declared Bastian Schweinsteiger ahead of the showdown with the former Bayern boss.
Magath and the Wolves snatched the league title from under Bayern’s noses last term, and the respected boss is now attempting to lead the Royal Blues to the double. However, Bayern are targeting the same thing. “The most honest and important trophy is the German championship. But we’ve been to Berlin often enough, and we know playing a final there is a tremendous experience. We’d like that experience again this year,” said FCB chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.
