A week after sealing a 22nd German league title with a win at the Berlin Olympic stadium, Bayern return to the venerable arena on Saturday looking to land a second trophy and with it the domestic double. Victory in the DFB Cup final against holders Werder Bremen would hand FCB the second of the three pieces of silverware they are chasing this term, and reignite the mass celebrations of last weekend.
“Once you’re so close, your aim is to win. That’s only logical,” commented coach Louis van Gaal at the joint pre-match news conference, held on Friday deep in the bowels of the Olympic stadium. “I’ve won the cup in Holland and Spain, and would like to do so in Germany. I consider it a huge challenge, ” the Dutch boss continued, admitting to a “good feeling” ahead of the 25th final to be staged in the capital.
