The international Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne has dismissed Bayern’s final appeal against the suspension which will keep Franck Ribéry out of Saturday’s Champions League final in Madrid, where Munich face Internazionale.
Bayern’s appeal centred on a challenge to an earlier UEFA verdict, classifying a foul by Ribéry in the semi-final against Olympique Lyon on 21 April as violent conduct.
For reasons of jurisdiction, the CAS declined to formulate its own assessment of the foul by Ribéry, and correspondingly deferred to UEFA’s assessment. The CAS will provide Bayern with the reasons for its decision in written form in the coming days.
In the interest of the club, its supporters and naturally the player himself, Bayern chose to pursue the appeal using every means at its disposal. Bayern Munich must and will accept and respect the verdict handed down by the CAS.
