Ribéry: I have lots of power for the new season

The operation on both groins went well and the stitches are already out, leaving Franck Ribéry full of optimism and determination ahead of the new campaign. “I have lots of power for the new season, it’s a very important one for me,” the Frenchman told FCB.tv on Monday: “I want to enjoy myself with the team and win as much as possible: the Bundesliga, the cup, and – let’s see how it goes - the Champions League too.”

Ribéry still looked a shade unsteady on his feet at the Säbener Strasse performance centre on Monday, but just ten days after his operation, he was in sprightly and upbeat spirits. “It hurts from time to time, but there’s a lot less pain already. It's getting better every day,” said the 26-year-old, who will now take his summer vacation.

The player, his wife Wahiba and their two kids flew to Ibiza on Tuesday. In the middle of next week, Bayern sports rehab specialist Thomas Wilhelmi and physiotherapist Gerry Hoffmann will travel to the player’s vacation base in order to step up his recovery programme. “I have a lot of work to do with Gerry and Thomas,” Ribéry acknowledged.

After the bulk of the squad return from the summer training camp in Trentino, the star winger hopes to resume the normal and full training programme as soon as possible. He has set himself a personal target for his return to competitive action: “My programme is firmly aimed at 20 August, so I’ll be fit to face Wolfsburg.”
