I’m a huge football fan, sprint star reveals

Professional footballers at Bayern are used to being treated as idols. During the school summer holiday, crowds in their thousands routinely flock to the Säbener Strasse facility to observe Mark van Bommel & Co train, capture a snap or two of a favourite star, or collect autographs. Away from the field of play, the FCB men are accustomed to stopping in the street and signing autographs or posing for photos.

However, Louis van Gaal’s men suddenly became the excited fans with cameras in hand on Tuesday, as Jamaican king of sprint Usain Bolt paid a surprise visit to the team training session. After the workout, each and every one of the players was determined to chat and be pictured with the 100m and 200m world record holder.

“I’m a huge football fan,” the 24-year-old super-athlete revealed to FCB.tv. The sprinter said he had followed the World Cup in South Africa “very closely”, with a specially admiring eye on Germany, although he admitted his favourite team was actually Argentina.
