Danijel Pranjic emerged with huge credit from Bayern’s 4-2 victory over SC Freiburg last Friday. The Croatia international made a vital contribution to his side’s fourth league win of term with three assists. Two Pranjic corners led directly to headed goals, Bayern’s first successes from dead-ball situations this season.
The 28-year-old has been a regular choice for boss Louis van Gaal this term, largely due to his versatility: Pranjic is equally at home on the left side of defence, in central midfield, or out on either flank. His three assists against Freiburg meant he doubled his total for FCB at one stroke. After the match, fcbayern.de spoke to the Croatia utility man.
Interview: Danijel Pranjic
fcbayern.de: Danijel, congratulations on the win over Freiburg, and on your contribution to it. Have you ever provided three assists in a single match before?
Danijel Pranjic: I don’t think so. If so, I definitely don’t remember it (laughs).
You weren’t even playing in your favoured position.
That's true, but I don’t think I did too badly. As long as Diego Contento remains unavailable, I’m the first alternative at left-back, and I simply try and do my best. I can basically play both positions on the left side, defensive and offensive, but I’m still happiest in central midfield.“
