Chairman: We have to win whatever it takes

In the wake of the 2-0 defeat to Borussia Dortmund and Bayern’s slide to 12th in the Bundesliga standings, FCB chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has made no attempt to conceal the board’s anxiety and dissatisfaction. “We’re very concerned about the situation and we’re taking it extremely seriously,” Rummenigge declared on Monday, saying he had no qualms about using “that word ‘crisis’” to describe the club’s predicament.

“We’re all unhappy,” emphasised Rummenigge, “no-one’s happy with the situation, everyone’s worried, and none of us is satisfied.” However, the chairman also warned against over-reaction. “Despite the seriousness of the situation, we mustn’t lose our nerve. We all need to work towards turning the corner to more positive times in our next match.” Nor would the club “correct our targets” after only seven matches. “FC Bayern must demonstrate the ability to straighten out extraordinary problems and make corrections.”
