Gomez: All the goals were very curious

Following Tuesday night’s 3-2 victory over Cluj, Bayern need just one point to be sure of a place in the Champions League knockout stages, as the German champions are six points clear of all three of their Group E rivals. Satisfaction was the main emotion after the Allianz Arena clash, although no-one was denying that two own goals by the visitors represented enormous good fortune. “But at the end of the day, it was a deserved win,“ said coach Louis van Gaal.

Reaction to Bayern v Cluj

Uli Hoeneß: “We can be pleased about seeing it through to the end relatively comfortably. It's not what the scoreline suggests, but apart from the last five minutes, you never had the feeling we’d lose. Looking at the table, we’re in a fantastic position. We probably don’t need any more points, but to finish top of the section, we need one win from our last three games.“

Louis van Gaal: “We had a lot of luck today, but it’s always difficult when your opponents pull ten men back behind the ball. It meant we had a lot of space to defend. We didn’t let them have many chances, but we didn’t create many either, so we were lucky in that our opponents scored two own goals. Our midfield played well. Schweinsteiger, Kroos and Ottl kept the ball moving well. It's a shame I had to take Schweinsteiger off relatively early, but Dr Müller-Wohlfahrt said he should only play 70 minutes. We shouldn’t be letting in the second goal, we defended poorly. But at the end of the day, it was a deserved win.”
