Nerlinger: I’m delighted for all our scorers

No-one would argue that Mario Gomez’ 61st-minute goal was not deserved. The Germany star had been mobile and industrious all evening, performing the target man role to perfection. A few moments earlier, he had only been denied a goal by a fine reaction save from Freiburg keeper Oliver Baumann, but the striker made no mistake when presented with a free header from a Danijel Pranjic corner.

The 25-year-old Gomez, who did not make a first start of term until Matchday 7, is now the club’s leading scorer with four goals. He and Bastian Schweinsteiger are the only players to score in all three competitions. However, on Friday evening, Mario knew the other Munich scorers would grab the headlines, especially Martin Demichelis and Anatoliy Tymoshchuk: “Both have been through tough times, and I can really sympathise with them,” the striker declared.
