Ivica Olic was sweating and wheezing, but fitness trainer Andreas Kornmayer showed no mercy, keeping his subject permanently on the move with only the briefest of rest breaks. It was an intense workout, but one Olic undertook gladly. After missing two matches with a broken nose, the Croat is determined to make the squad for Friday’s trip to Hamburg. The portents are good, although a decision will not be taken until Thursday.
Daniel van Buyten (back) is a fringe candidate for a comeback in Hamburg. The Belgian has also sat out the last two matches, but unlike Olic, has yet to train with the ball at his feet. Nevertheless, he has not yet been ruled out for Friday.
Klose up and running
By contrast, Franck Ribéry, Arjen Robben, Mark van Bommel, David Alaba and Rouven Sattelmaier remain sidelined. Miroslav Klose (torn muscle) resumed jogging on Wednesday, and Diego Contento (groin) and Breno (cruciate) are only sporadically part of the squad training programme.
