Chairman: FC Bayern can live with this defeat

Bayern’s trip to Rome ended in success, but the joy in the Bayern camp after the final whistle was distinctly muted. “The dressing room was very quiet, everyone was disappointed,” director of sport Christian Nerlinger revealed in the Stadio Olimpico Mixed Zone. FCB won Champions League Group E on Tuesday despite losing 3-2 to AS Roma, but the manner of the defeat was the main topic of debate afterwards.

“It's disappointing and unbelievable that we’ve thrown away a 2-0 lead,” raged coach Louis van Gaal. Yet again, his men shone in the first half, but tossed away a lead in the second. “You shouldn’t be losing a game where you’ve gone in at half-time 2-0 up,” said Nerlinger, “it's not the first time we’ve been unable to defend a lead through to the end, so it’s something we have to look at very closely.”
