Bayern's unbeaten run now stretches to nine games in all competitions, but for the champions, it is a case of running to stand still in the Bundesliga. Saturday's 1-1 draw away to Leverkusen means Munich are seven points off second spot, and a daunting 14 behind runaway leaders Borussia Dortmund.
"1-1 obviously isn't enough for us. Just like the Gladbach match, I'm left with the feeling we've thrown away two points," boss Louis van Gaal commented ruefully. The Bavarians are having a below-par season away from home this term, with only six points from as many matches on their travels, and just a single victory, a last-gasp 2-1 win in Hoffenheim. Germany's most successful club expect better. "If we intend to catch up, we'll have to start winning away from home too," observed Bastian Schweinsteiger.
