Resurgent Bayern returned to form on Sunday with a thoroughly merited 2-0 win over title rivals Schalke, thanks to an excellent team display spearheaded by on-fire Franck Ribéry. Munich made a host of good chances in both halves and probably should have won by more, but the Bayern camp was still highly satisfied afterwards as the Reds kept up their pursuit of leaders Dortmund.
Reaction to Schalke v Bayern:
Jupp Heynckes: “It was a solid team display. Our pressing was good and we made plenty of chances. We weren’t so smart in front of goal, but we dominated the match and kept a clean sheet. We can be satisfied. It's a result which shows us the way to go as a team. We have great footballers, but they all have to pull together. It has to work like clockwork. You also have to be prepared to do the dirty work, and all my players were up for it today. This is the path we have to follow.”
Holger Badstuber: “We were up for the match and we did the job we had to do. It was a first step. We played very well and had lots of chances, but we should have taken the lead earlier, and it would have been a much easier ride. But this is the way to go. We knew Gladbach had dropped points, so we were determined to recover second place, and we’ve done it.”
