In January, Arjen Robben turned 28, widely acknowledged as the prime age for a footballer. The Dutch ace numbers the likes of Real Madrid and Chelsea among his former clubs, and has played for Bayern since 2009, but even he has never experienced anything like the previous seven days at FCB, as the men in red fired 20 goals past Hoffenheim, Basel and Berlin, with Robben himself claiming fully seven of those.
The day after a gala 6-0 triumph away to Hertha Berlin, the Netherlands international spoke at length to fcbayern.de. “I've never had a week like that before," he confirmed, also discussing Bayern's chances in the title race, his current state of fitness, and Wednesday's crucial DFB Cup semi-final away to Mönchengladbach.
Interview: Arjen Robben
Arjen, after 20 goals in a week, you must all have been in high spirits on the flight home yesterday.
Arjen Robben: Of course! Last week was outstanding. We're really enjoying ourselves again after what was a difficult period. It's legitimate to celebrate and enjoy yourself a bit, but we all know we have to keep it up.
Could it possibly have been any better?
You can always do better. There are small things which still require work. For example, we let Berlin have two or three good chances.
