The Bayern squad took off from Munich airport shortly before 11 am on Tuesday, headed for Madrid. The 290 passengers on board Lufthansa charter flight LH 2570 included the entire playing and coaching staff, club officials, partners and sponsors, and media representatives. FCB are headed for the Spanish capital for Wednesday evening’s Champions League semi-final return against Real Madrid, with a place in the final at stake.
“It'll be a very tough match, and a very tough task awaits us there on Wednesday," chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge declared shortly before takeoff. “But I think Mario Gomez’ last-minute goal has given us a small chance, and we'll try and take this small chance. We'll try to realise our fans’ dream and get through to the final. But we'll need a moment of Bavarian magic," Rummenigge continued.
