Out of the rain and into the sun: the Bayern squad arrived in Trentino on Sunday lunchtime for this summer's official training camp to find temperatures around 30 degrees Celsius. The Lufthansa charter jet landed on schedule at a quarter to midday in Verona, where the team bus was waiting to cover the one-hour drive to Riva del Garda, the players’ temporary home until Friday.
The party includes the first stars returning from Euro 2012. Arjen Robben, Anatoliy Tymoshchuk and new signing Mario Mandzukic will take up the pre-season programme at 5 pm on Sunday evening in Arco, where all the scheduled training sessions in Trentino will be held. By contrast, the German European championship participants and Franck Ribéry are still on vacation, although the France star is set to begin an individual training programme in Munich this Thursday.
As in the last two weeks, the first-team squad is complemented at the moment by seven players from the club’s youth section. Boss Jupp Heynckes has scheduled nine training sessions and two friendlies for the six days on the north shores of Lake Garda. The undoubted highlight of the stay is Friday’s prestige friendly against Serie A side SSC Napoli.
