Bayern's Germany internationals are still on vacation, but the battle for places in the team is already hotting up. All the summer signings are busily at work with Germany's biggest club, and just as Jupp Heynckes hoped, they are “lighting fires" under the established players. As Anatoly Tymoshchuk reported: “Everyone has to fight, scrap, run and throw themselves into it for a regular place."
These qualities are on display at the training camp in Trentino every day. In practice matches and even in stamina-building runs, every player is totally committed to the cause. “There's a very, very good intensity to the team," remarked Matthias Sammer. Boss Heynckes is equally impressed: “The new players in particular are really giving it everything, they want to prove themselves and put themselves forward."
