Zàijiàn Beijing, Ni hao Guangzhou! The Bayern party has said farewell to the Chinese capital. After two eventful and successful days in Beijing, the stars, the coaching and support staff, the delegation leaders and the rest of the travelling group from Munich made their way to the airport on Wednesday lunchtime (local time). After a delay of just under two hours due to storms in the Guangzhou area, the Lufthansa charter flight finally took off at around 3.45 pm. The plane duly arrived in the southern metropolis, known as the “factory to the world” for its enormous and ever-increasing industrial might, some three and a half hours later.
An extraordinary welcome awaited the men from Munich, as a huge crowd of fans greeted Thomas Müller and Co like rock stars. The thronging masses made getting through the airport a tough and time-consuming business, as thousands of fans pressed forward in search of autographs or a souvenir photo. Eventually, the players and staff were able to battle their way through to the team bus.
