Mario Mandzukic is the focus of attention before he has even started training at FC Bayern. As soon as the Croat stepped out of his car at Säbener Strasse on Friday morning, he was surrounded by a dozen fans. He was only too happy to sign autographs before hurrying into the head office to be welcomed by Matthias Sammer before his first interview with FCB.tv. He then faced the assembled members of the media just half an hour after his arrival. Mario Mandzukic was in top gear from his first minute at FC Bayern.
“When I was on holiday, I could hardly wait to get started. I’m all ready to go,” declared the 26-year-old striker who will wear the number nine shirt for Bayern. “I’m really happy to be here.” Mandzukic described his move from Wolfsburg to Munich as “a giant step forward. FC Bayern is one of the four biggest clubs in the world. It’s an honour to play for Bayern.”
