Matthias Sammer was appointed to the new position of board member for sport at Bayern on Monday. The following day, the former DFB director of sport introduced himself to the coaching and playing staff prior to FCB's first workout of the new season. Afterwards, the 44-year-old spoke exclusively to FCB.tv about his new job. We summarise Sammer's key statements.
Matthias Sammer on…
…the pace of developments in recent days:
“It resembles what happens in a match: you can't allow yourself too much time for decisions. I'm delighted it's happened so fast and we pushed it through quickly."
…his departure from the DFB:
“Wolfgang Niersbach was very closely involved in bringing me to the DFB in the first place. He was an essential factor, both professionally and for me personally. That hasn't changed, and our relationship is very friendly. In the meantime, we frequently discussed potential future eventualities. It was clear to him that if the call came in from the Säbener Strasse, it would awake the passion in me. We settled everything relatively quickly once I called him. Wolfgang Niersbach is a sensitive judge of a situation and knew I really wanted to take the new job."
