On Monday lunchtime, FC Bayern announced the immediate appointment of Matthias Sammer as board member for sport. At the same time, the club said, FCB and director of sport Christian Nerlinger are to part company. The FC Bayern president and supervisory board chairman explained the reasoning behind the decision and why the announcement has only now been made, and outlined the reaction to the move of the German FA (DFB), where Sammer has worked up until now as director of sport.
